Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is a modern technique, supported by research, which seeks to focus on the solution to a problem, rather than the problem itself. In contrast to other forms of therapy, SFH puts the solutions and the future in the spotlight and leaves the past firmly in the past. Sessions are therefore positive and optimistic, looking forwards to where you want to be and helping you to get there.
Hypnotherapy can help people of all ages and abilities and Children are especially good clients due to their wonderful imaginations.
What to expect
The initial consultation will generally last 50-60 minutes (unless you are attending a stop smoking session, which lasts between 90-120 minutes). During this time, I will ask you what you would like help with and what you hope to achieve. I will also ask you for some personal details, to help me decide on the most suitable approach for you. I will explain how the brain works and why it is we suffer in the way we do, but most importantly how can make things better. The Initial Consultation and explanation of the brain can in itself often play a powerful part in bringing about change.
Sometimes our issues are obvious to us, yet other times we may feel a sense of anxiety or confusion that we don’t really understand. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy does not require you to necessarily know, or understand what the problem is, so long as you have the commitment and determination to want change, or to make things better.
During this Initial Consultation, I will provide you with a copy of my relaxation CD, or MP3, suggesting that you listen to this every night when it is time to go to sleep. This helps enormously with the progress of your therapy and will help you to become more familiar with trance.
For all issues (except for specific phobias or stop smoking), the subsequent sessions will then follow a similar process, generally with us meeting for weekly 50-60 minute sessions.
The first part of the session will involve psychotherapy (talking therapy) where I will help you to identify your unique solutions and goals, as well as realistic ways to achieve them. The second part of the session will reinforce what has been discussed, through the use of Hypnosis; which guides you into a trance state through visualisation and relaxation.
Trance is very ordinary and happens many times a day. You may be able to relate to this when losing track of time reading a book, or perhaps driving somewhere yet not recalling the route? During trance you are in an altered state of consciousness and very much in control, yet also able to access the subconscious mind; which holds a wealth of often unrealised personal strength and wisdom. In this state, you are most heightened and receptive to the power of beneficial suggestion, in order to maximise your potential and bring out the best in you.
Trance is entirely safe and a highly enjoyable relaxed sensation. I only ever use Hypnotherapy for therapeutic purposes and your mind will only accept suggestions which are beneficial to you.
So, contrary to what you may have seen on the television, I do not use Hypnosis and trance for entertainment purposes and will not make you cluck like a chicken!
Phobias and fears
For specific phobias or trauma, I use a technique called rewind and reframe. This effective approach enables you to disassociate your feelings of anxiety from the subject of the phobia or trauma and instead form new templates to enable you to feel calm and relaxed.
Hypnotherapy is not magic and sadly I do not have a real magic wand! Success is very much dependent upon a person’s effort and commitment to want to change. I can help you to access vital resources and strengths which are already within you, which you may otherwise fail to identify. Every person’s life journey is different, so although I can’t tell you what to do, or where you are going….. I will certainly help you to get there, to bring about lasting change and hopefully be the best you can be!
