About Solution Focused Therapy & Hypnotherapy


Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) are modern techniques, supported by research, which seek to focus on the solution to a problem, rather than the problem itself. In contrast to other forms of therapy, SFBT & SFH put the solutions and the preferred future in the spotlight and leaves the problems firmly in the past. Sessions are therefore positive and optimistic, looking forwards to where you want to be, identifying your strengths and helping you to get there.

We can help people of all ages and abilities and Children are especially good clients due to their wonderful imaginations.

It is possible to see people on an Individual or group basis.

What to expect

Initial Consultation

The initial consultation will generally last 50-60 minutes.  During this time, I will ask you about your best hopes for our work together.  I will also ask you for some personal details and we will complete the necessary paperwork.

If you feel it would be useful to you, I can also explain how the brain works which has been found to play a powerful part in helping us to feel empowered to bring about positive change.

Sometimes our issues are obvious to us, yet other times we may feel a sense of anxiety or confusion that we don’t really understand.  Solution Focused Therapies do not require you to know, or understand what the problem is, we just focus on how you’d like things to be!

During this Initial Consultation, I will also provide you with a complimentary copy of my relaxation MP3.

Subsequent sessions

These consist of 50-60 minute sessions and will involve a mixture of conversation and trance, as required.

You know yourself better than anyone else and my job is to work with you, in collaboration, to identify and focus upon the solutions that you need in order to achieve your best hopes and become the best version of yourself.

Trance can be used to reinforce and embed what has been discussed.  Hypnosis guides you into a trance state through the use of guided visualisation and progressive muscle relaxation.


Trance is very ordinary and happens many times a day. You may be able to relate to this when losing track of time reading a book, or perhaps driving somewhere yet not recalling the route?

During trance you are in an altered state of consciousness and in control, yet also able to access the subconscious mind.  This holds a wealth of often unrealised personal strength and wisdom.  In this state, you are most heightened and receptive to the power of beneficial suggestion, which can be useful to maximise your potential and bring out the very best in you.

Trance is generally very safe and an enjoyable relaxing sensation.  (There are certain situations where trance may not be appropriate, but this would be identified and discussed during the initial consultation).

I only ever use Hypnotherapy for therapeutic purposes and your mind will only accept suggestions which are beneficial to you.  So, contrary to what you may have seen on the television, I do not use hypnosis for entertainment purposes and will not make you cluck like a chicken!

Phobias, fears & Trauma

Solution focused therapies are hugely beneficial for phobias and trauma.  If suitable, I may also use a technique called ‘rewind’, which was recently modernised by Dr Muss and is both fast to do and highly effective.

Hypnotherapy is not magic and sadly I do not have a real magic wand! Success is very much dependent upon a person’s determination and commitment to want to change. I will support you to access vital resources and strengths which are already within you, which you may otherwise fail to identify.

Every person’s life journey is different, so although I won’t tell you what to do, or where you are going….. I will certainly work with you to achieve your best hopes, bring about lasting change and hopefully become the best version of yourself that you can and deserve to be!
